Plaza Hotel General Manager Declan ‘thrilled’ to win award

DECLAN Bowe, General Manager at the Plaza Hotel in Tallaght won ‘Best Hotel General Manager’ at the Irish Hospitality Awards 2024.

Mr Bowe has led the team at The Plaza Hotel and Tallaght Cross Hotel for the past five years and overseen in-depth refurbishments at the business.

Declan is thrilled to have won this award and it means a great deal, not only to himself but to the entire team at The Plaza.

“I truly am grateful to have been recognised in the category of Best General Manager, especially with such worthy nominees and couldn’t be more surprised and delighted to have won,” said Declan.

Declan began his hospitality career in the early ‘90s, working in many fine establishments in Dublin including The Clarence and The Fitzwilliam Hotel.

Over the subsequent years, Declan steadily worked his way up the ranks through various departments in hotels, from working as a hotel porter, receptionist, waiter, night porter, supervisor, duty manager, operations and deputy general manager, to eventually taking the reigns as a GM.

Working as part of a national hotel group, TMR Hotel Collection, Declan has enjoyed the support of colleagues nationwide including Harveys Point in Donegal, Connemara Coast Hotel in Galway, Farnham Estate in Cavan, and many more.

The Plaza say one of Declan’s key traits is that he makes time to listen and develop his team, and to provide guidance in not only the technical skills but the approach a team member takes in their role.

The Plaza’s Alder Café Bar was also nominated in the ‘Best Dining Experience’ category for the awards.

The hospitality awards were held at The Crowne Plaza Dublin Airport, an event organised by Oceanic Awards.
