Pupils will watch and enjoy new school forest

Talllaght Community Council (TCC) planted another school forest in Scoil Carmel this week.

In the program funded by Google and AWS in Communities, schools in Tallaght can increase native tree cover on their campus and also enhance biodiversity in their area.

In Scoil Carmel, the campus is predominantly hard surface for playing and active recreation for the pupils, with very limited areas for planting.  TCC worked with Scoil Carmel to create a plan that worked for the school.

The area used had some very mature fir trees and sycamore trees as the focus to create a school forest.

By adding mountain ash and hawthorn saplings, along with tree ferns, foxgloves and yellow archangel pollinators a mini woodland area has been created for the pupils to enjoy and watch through the seasons.
