Rathcoole based CityPOST to create hundreds of jobs

HUNDREDS of full and part-time jobs are in the post due to the arrival of a new national postal collection and delivery service for businesses, which is based out of a state-of-the-art sorting facility in the Greenogue Business Park in Rathcoole.

Following an investment of more than €1M into its Greenogue base, CityPOST, which is Ireland’s first independent full servive postal provider, has the largest independently owned digital sorting infrastructure in the country.

The company is now hoping to bring about “a renaissance” in the postal industry with a new nationwide business postal service call Post PICK-UP, which CityPOST claims will undercut the annual costs of the existing universal provider by up to 21 per cent.

According to CityPOST CEO, Ian Glass: “CityPOST is delighted to launch our flagship product for businesses, PostPICK-UP.

“It is clear that post still has an important role to play for businesses.

“It is also clear, that Irish businesses want to pay less for their postal service. CityPOST is delighted to deliver a choice that has been missing from the Irish postal market.”

He added: “We believe that there is a real opportunity to grow the postal market in Ireland, but this is only possible through innovation and developing new products, like PostPICK-UP, Hybrid mail and new price points.

“CityPOST’s strategy is to innovate, to disrupt, but also to partner with other providers, with the goal of creating a better system.

“Our experience in Portugal and as is evident among many European countries, is that competition is good for postal services and customers and ultimately drives postal volumes.”

While no official comment has been made by the company in terms of jobs, Mr Glass said in a Newstalk interview last week: “Just as we’re saying to businesses ‘come to our website and register’, we’re also saying if you’d like to be one of our post pick-up people or one of our delivery people – because we’ll also be delivering mail in those towns – register as well, because we want to set up a network across Ireland.

“We have a mix of full and part-time roles and we are talking about hundreds of jobs.”
