‘Rats the size of cats’ on the Fonthill Road
HEALTH and safety concerns have been raised after local residents spotted “rats the size of cats” on the Fonthill Road recently.
South Dublin County Council confirmed to The Echo this week that it has noted reports that the “rat population” has increased over the cold winter months.
As a result of this an investigation is underway to find out if there is a risk to public health because of the huge rodents.
A council spokeswoman said: “The council is liaising with the HSE pest control to establish if a potential public health nuisance is in existence which requires eradication measures.”
There have been several rodent sightings in the Fonthill Road area – including some near playing pitches and local bus stops.
