Rights campaigner is proposed for Freedom of County

LUCAN resident and children’s rights campaign-er Christina Noble has been proposed for Freedom of the County.

At Tuesday’s Lucan/ Palmerstown Area Com-mittee Meeting, Councillor Paul Gogarty tabled a motion calling for the area committee to nomsinate Ms Noble for the freedom of the county “on the occasion of the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation’s 30th anniversary, in recognition of her and her organisation’s outstanding and often under-appreciated contribution to humanity”.

The motion was passed by the Committee. As per Council protocol, the nomination for the freedom of the county will be brought to Mayor Vicki Casserly and the Council’s Corporate Policy Group for consideration.

Cllr Gogarty told The Echo that Ms Noble has lived in Lucan for many years.

He said that she has received multiple awards for her work in the UK and abroad, but very few in Ireland.

Cllr Gogarty added: “She is one of the outstanding citizens of South Dublin and given that it is the 30th anniversary of her Foundation, it is a fitting time for the county she lives in to recognise her personal contribution.

She is not seeking personal plaudits, but I have met her on several occasions and she is an amazing woman. People who work with her are saddened that her work has not been recognised in her own country.

I would hope that the passing of this motion will lead to her getting the recognition she deserves.”

The Echo contacted The Christina Noble Found-ation for a comment on Ms Noble’s nomination but they did not respond before we went to press.
