Rovers U13 are all smiles after DDSL Liam Brady Cup success

Shamrock Rovers U13 were crowned DDSL Liam Brady U13 champions last Saturday, edging out local Dublin rivals Leicester Celtic with a narrow 1-0 win.

The match that took place in the AUL Complex in Clonshaugh, was ultimately decided by an unfortunate own goal off the back of a Leicester Celtic defender.

Throughout the match, Shamrock Rovers dominated possession, creating numerous scoring opportunities, with Padraig Cairns and Harry Rehill relentlessly testing the Leicester Celtic defense to no avail.

Despite their dominance and several close calls, they struggled to convert their chances into goals.

The Leicester Celtic goalkeeper produced a series of impressive saves.

This victory marks a significant change in dynamics for Shamrock Rovers, who have been steamrolling opponents with high-scoring victories throughout the season.

Used to winning games by margins of 6 or 8 goals, the final presented a tougher challenge.

The win caps off an impressive season for Shamrock Rovers, who remain unbeaten in the league with two draws and no losses.

They now turn their attention to the league decider against Swords Celtic, where a win would secure them the league title.

With their current form and determination, they are favorites to complete a memorable double.

Speaking with The Echo after the game was Hoops u13 manager Tom O’Connor.

“A very satisfying result for us. It was a hard fought win; nothing easy,” O’Connor said.

“The lads have been used to winning games 8-0 all season so to come up against a strong Leicester side in the final with their rigid defense was tough,” he revealed.

“We are very pleased with the outcome despite a few squandered chances,” he laughed.

“We’re looking to secure the league next with our next game against Swords Celtic that will secure the double for us.”
