ST AIDAN’S Senior National School in Brookfield was presented with their yellow flag for its work on diversity, equality and inclusion.

The awarding of the flag follows intense work by students, parents and staff at St Aidan’s.

The Brookfield School joined 13 other schools awarded flags at a national ceremony in Liberty Hall. Each school completed eight steps to ensure that they are open and welcome to all.

Presenting the flag Minister Katherine Zappone said: “Flying the Yellow Flag is a declaration.

“It tells the entire local community that St Aidan’s and all who study there believe in diversity, equality and inclusion for all.

“It represents the completion of an intense two years of preparations during which young students took the lead.

“They not only made sure that the classrooms, corridors and playgrounds are open and welcoming to all, but that the themes of diversity and inclusion extended beyond the school walls and into the wider community.

“The actions of all at St Aidan’s gives me great hope for the future – not just of the school and the community but also of our country.

“The students have shown that true equality is not just studied, it means putting what has been learned into practice. I congratulate them on their award and wish them every success in their studies ahead.”
