Second technical examination to take place at scene of tragic Clondalkin fire

Investigations into the cause of a fire in Clondalkin which claimed the lives of a woman and three young children are ongoing.

A second technical examination is set to take place today at the apartment block in Kilcronan Avenue.

27-year-old Anne Marie O’Brien and her daughter Paris (2) died in the fire, as did Holly (3) and Jordan O’Brien (4).

Their mother, Brigid O’Brien is still believed to be in critical condition in St James’ Hospital.

It is expected that further forensic examinations will be carried out today to determine the cause of the fire, while an electrical engineer is also expected to be on the scene at some point today.

The focus of the examination will be on the first floor apartment where the five people were sleeping, and at the other three apartments in the complex which had to be evacuated.

The tragedy unfolded around 2:30am yesterday morning at an apartment in Kilcronan Avenue, which is used by Sonas Domestic Violence Charity to provide short-term accommodation for women and children.

Books of condolence have been opened at the Civic Offices in both Clondalkin and Tallaght this afternoon by Mayor Guss O’Connell.

Investigations continue this afternoon, with an update from gardai expected later today.
