Indiependence slot for Brass Phantoms
A POST-PUNK band which is fronted by a Ballyfermot College of Further Education graduate are preparing for a storming performance at Cork’s Indiependence Festival this summer, following the release of their new single ‘Waiting Up’.
Brass Phantoms consists of Ryan Cashell, James Geraghty, Greg Whelan and Adam McCabe, and the band already has two EPs to their name and are gearing up for their summer festival show.
When asked about how he reacted to finding out the band would be playing at Indiependence, bassist and lead singer Ryan Cashell told The Echo: “It was fantastic. We didn’t think we’d get picked, so we can’t wait for it.
“[Being added to the line-up] really propelled us in the music industry, so we’re very happy about it.”
The festival show follows the release of their new single ‘Waiting Up’, an 80s-inflicted slice of percussive post-punk.
Describing how the song came about, Ryan said: “I got the idea when I was walking around the quays in Dublin – it can be quite eerie.
“There’s a lot of grim imagery, and I usually go for the grimmer end of songwriting.”
The band first got together in 2014, and since then they’ve developed their sound into “something that reminds people of the sounds of the 80s,” according to Ryan.
“It’s very raw, and there’s a lot of energy.”
‘Waiting Up’ is out now on Spotify, and tickets for Indiependence can be bought online at indiependence.tickets.ie. To find out more about Brass Phantoms, check out their Facebook page at facebook.com/BPDublin.
