Significant multi-agency checkpoints at Kylemore

MULTI-agency checkpoints took place last week at Kylemore Road/Labre Park – a significant operation which featured gardai, customs officials, Dublin City Council and taxi regulators.
The checkpoints were scheduled for lunchtime Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Echo understands revenue officials were carrying out random checks for illegal fuel on diesel vehicles.
Council officials were also involved in the operation, inspecting commercial vehicles carrying waste and rubbish.
Legally, vehicles are required to have a licence to transport waste and rubbish.
Taxi regulators were also involved targeting drivers operating in breach of regulations, and other potential offences including meters not switched on, correct driver identification on display, drivers assigned to the taxi and required safety equipment in place.
According to gardai, one motorist was detected for drink driving on Monday at the Kylemore checkpoint.
Local gardai were assembled by the An Garda Síochána Roads Policing Unit, and carried out drug and drink testing during the operation.
Drug testing is now a regular feature for garda checkpoints, including in the Ballyfermot, Clondalkin and Palmerstown areas.
It is carried out by a different machine to that used for drink testing.
At a checkpoint in Kildare on Valentine’s Day, Superintendent Eddie Golden, Garda National Roads Policing Bureau, said they expected to check between 800 to 1,000 people with compliance of drink and drug driving legislation.
Six people were detected during that operation and arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving and brought to the station.
