Outbreak of burglaries leads gardai to investigate

GARDAI are investigating a spate of home burglaries that took place in Kilnamanagh last week, and a spokesperson from the local neighbourhood watch group is encouraging anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it to the gardai.

On Tuesday, February 11, a number of houses were broken into in areas including Birchview, Tamarisk, and Elmcastle, between 6pm and 9.30pm.

Houses in Tamarisk and Elmcastle of Kilnamanagh have been targeted

A garda spokesperson told The Echo: “It’s believed a number of items were taken from the properties. No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.”

According to Kilnamanagh Neighbourhood Watch, there was also an attempted break-in at a house in Tamarisk in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for Kilnamanagh Neighbourhood Watch told The Echo: “Home burglaries have been happening, on and off, in the area since before Christmas.

“[The robbers] have been quite aggressive, they’ve done quite a lot of damage to some of the houses.

“Burglaries are happening a lot more here. It’s been happening in a way that we haven’t seen since we set up the neighbourhood watch five or six years ago.

“The neighbourhood watch has a really good relationship with the guards, and the guards are doing their best, but there are limits.

“We just want more gardai on the ground. We have a problem with burglaries, and it needs to be dealt with.

“We’re asking people to keep their eyes open, and that no matter how insignificant something might appear to be, they should call it into the guards.”
