A FILE has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to a sex attack on a young teenage girl in Tallaght last month, The Echo has learned.
Gardaí interviewed six teenage boys in relation to the investigation, which involved an allegation of sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl in a green space close to St Mark’s GAA Club on January 25.
Senior Garda sources confirmed to The Echo that no arrests were made and that a file to the DPP was prepared and has now been sent.
The investigation saw the teenage girl provide a detailed statement to a specialist child interviewer and also the seizure of mobile phones and the examination of CCTV in an attempt to gather evidence.
According to reports, the six teenage boys questioned made full voluntary statements, with An Garda Siochána’s Director of Juvenile Affairs expected to review the case alongside the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The sexual assault happened between 4pm and 5pm in a green space close to Ashgrove apartments, and opposite St Mark’s GAA Club, on the Cookstown Road on January 25.
Garda sealed off the general area and identified a location which was forensically examined.
Later that evening, as reported in The Echo at the time, a second alleged sexual assault was reported to Tallaght Garda Station, which involved two sisters in their late teens targeted by a group of young males as they walked through Maplewood, also in Springfield, at around 5.30pm.
Gardaí have confirmed that both incidents are unrelated.
