Active South Dublin Sports Awards 2025. 

All monthly sports stars are in the running for Sports Star of the Year award.

The Active South Dublin Sports Awards are run in association with The Echo and with support from SDCC and the Plaza Hotel.

January Sports Star

Abbey Molloy

ABBEY Molloy made club history when she became the first member to win the National U18 Female Boxing Championships.

February Sports Star

Eileen O’Brien

EILEEN O’Brien helped the Ireland Athletics track and Field Masters O70s team break two World records. The Lucan Harriers athlete helped break the W70 4×800 metres world record on February 12, and then she went on to run the third leg in the W70 4x400m metres squad to break another world record just two weeks later.

Ellen Walshe

Two-time Irish Olympian and Paris 2024 Finalist Ellen Walshe smashed the oldest Irish Swimming Record, the long course (50m) 200m Butterfly, at the Leinster Aspiring Champions Meet in Dublin.

Zoe McDermott

Zoe McDermott is Ireland’s first female WKF medallist. Following the Karate Youth League in Guadalajara last month, Zoe from Kilnamanagh made history by becoming the first female to ever medal at a prestigious karate event.

Adam Charles

Éanna basketball player Adam Charles has played a huge role in his club and schools success this year. Adam, who is a member of the Ireland panel, was named Basketball Ireland Player of the Year last month following a brilliant campaign.

June Sports Star

Tiffany Spencer

Tiffany Spencer turned on the style at the National Irish Elite Boxing Competition in Belfast. A member of Jobstown Boxing Club, Tiffany became the new Elite champion in the 48kg weight class, defeating the reigning champion Ciara Walsh.

July Sports Star

Cormac Dixon

TALLAGHT Athletic’s Club member Cormac Dixon won gold at the National U20 and U23 Championships in Tullamore in July. The Rathcoole lad was first over the line in the 1,500m with a time of 3:59:85 in the U20 division. “All I was going for was the win to secure my spot for the European U20s champs in August”.

August Sports Star

Gabrielle Mongan

Gabrielle Mongan won her seventh title at national level at the U23 Championships while representing Jobstown Boxing Club. She defeated Jessica Talbot from Lucan Boxing Club to win the middleweight crown.

September Sports Star

Derek Tohill

Derek Tohill was named the overall national rallycross champion for 2025 and has already started the 2026 season with a big performance at Mondello Park at the start of October. The win this year was his ninth Irish title in a row and Tohill will be aiming to secure a decade worth of titles in 2026.

Ellen Walshe

Ellen Walshe had a hugely impressive showing at the World Cup short course swimming tournament last month with the Templeogue swimmer picking up seven medals at the competition along with breaking six national records.

Stephen Jones

Stephen Jones recently won gold in the Masters Division at the WAKO Kickboxing World Championships for Tallaght Martial Arts.
