Students plant daffodils to commemorate 50 years of Colaiste Bride on school site

A SECONDARY school has been turned yellow as hundreds of daffodils are planted to commemorate 50 years of the school on the site.
Spring has officially sprung at Coláiste Bríde in Clondalkin as daffodils lined the green areas around the school to mark the 50 year anniversary of the school at the current site.

Principal of Coláiste Bride, Marie-Thérèse Kilmartin, said every student and staff member participated in sowing the bulbs over a year and a half ago.
“We celebrated a year and a half ago, our 50 years of the building, and with the whole environment and climate change we decided to sow bulbs around October. Every student and staff member sowed a bulb and was involved so there is a load of daffodils around our school.
“Last year was the first year they came out, and they were coming out just as we were going into Covid lockdown and this year they are absolutely stunning. This year they are beautiful. Last year with covid they weren’t really seen so this year I made sure to take photographs.”
As well as marking 50 years, Ms Kilmartin says that the daffodils are a sign of ‘hope’.
“The whole thing is about schools and sustainability and daffodils are a sign of hope, and I know it was daffodil day for Irish Cancer Society and like any school community we’re all affected. Many within our school have been affected by cancer, and it shows the importance of hope and colour and beauty.
“Our students are so proactive for the environment, the students really loved doing something for the environment and it means they will always have a legacy.
“For the group that are here now, they will remember in 50 years from now sowing that bulb with the school. It’s all about building community and wellbeing.”
