
Tallaght athletes make the podium at national indoors
SEVERAL Tallaght athletes made the podium at the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone last weekend with Sean Aigboboh winning the U19 60m title after a blistering performance on Saturday with a new personal best time of 6.93, and earlier in the day Jack Kelly won bronze in the U19 1500m with a time of 3:58.05 and he added silver in the 800m on Sunday with a time of 1.53.39.
Also on Saturday, Ailin Geraghty recorded a new personal best time of 52.11 when winning his heat of the U17 400m to qualify for the final where he claimed the bronze medal after a storming late run in the last 50m with Dean Nolan finishing a good 5th place after he also recorded a new personal best time of 53.53 when winning his semi-final earlier in the day.
Despite being unwell on the day Hazel Jordan qualified in the U18 400m with a second-place finish in the heats where she recorded a time of 1:00.23 and in the final, she finished just shy of the podium in 4thplace.
Khalad Kourrini was another who put in a spirited performance in the U17 1500m final where he knocked almost seven seconds off his previous best time when finishing 8th in a time of 4:28.27, and Leonard Deering also bettered his previous best time in both the semi-final and in final of the U14 800m where he finished 7th in 2:17.92.
Others who competed over the weekend included Abdullahi Adeleke and Kamal Oresanya who both contested the U15 60m where they recorded 7.77 and 8.02 when finishing 5th and 7th respectively in heat two, Uche Disu who finished 4th in her heat of the U18 60m with a time of 8.24 and Gilbert Kaleta who finished 6th in his heat of the U19 60m with a time of 7.57.
