Tallaght teen charged with stealing bicycle and threatening owner’s father with golf club

A TEENAGER (15) charged with robbing a bicycle, and who allegedly threatened the father of the owner of the bicycle with a golf club, had his case remanded for hearing by Tallaght Court.

The teenager, with an address in Tallaght, is charged with robbing a bicycle worth €200 from a male on Tallaght Bypass on November 7, 2016.

He is also charged with possession of a golf club and damaging the bonnet of a car at another location in Tallaght also on November 7 last.

The teenager’s grandfather was present in court.

The court had heard it will be alleged that on November 7 last the injured party, a 15-year-old boy, was cycling along the bypass when the teenager came behind him and knocked him off his bicycle.

She said it will be alleged that the teenager, who was known to the injured party, made off on the bicycle.

The injured party then phoned his father. The father went to the scene and he and his son then tracked the teenager to an address in Tallaght where they asked him to return the bike.

The court had heard that it will be alleged that the teenager refused to hand over the bike and then threatened them with a golf club before going out and a damaging the bonnet of the father’s car with the golf club.

The case was before Judge Patricia McNamara to set a hearing date.

The teenager’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, said he thought the case would take 90 minutes to hear.

Judge McNamara set a hearing date in the middle of February and then remanded the teenager in detention to that date.
