The Ennio Morricone Experience: Film composer’s music to be celebrated at Civic

FILM composer Ennio Morricone’s music will be celebrated through a live concert coming to the Civic Theatre in Tallaght, writes Ryan Butler.

Under the direction of Annalisa Monticelli, the ensemble of piano, string trio, and singers will perform Morricone’s pieces from films such as The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, The Mission, Once Upon a Time in the West, A Fistful of Dollars, and Cinema Paradiso.

Compositions that also inspired Morricone and selections by contemporaries like Rota and Piovani will also feature.

Katy Kelly, a soprano singer from the group, was interviewed for this piece, but everybody from the group chipped in to help answer our questions.

One claims that “initially, it started out as an idea over coffee between two Italian musicians and became more focused after Morricone’s death in 2020.”

Annalisa wanted to highlight his music and came up with the idea to form a team of musicians to celebrate his work.

They continue by saying that “researching, arranging, and rehearsing” are involved in preparing for a performance like this, and “we love perfecting our set list and trying new arrangements, so there is always something fresh to hear.”

After their performance in the Civic, they are touring in Kildare, Longford, Limerick, Galway, Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Carlow, and Wicklow.

They are also working on a second tour to honour the masters of Italian film music.

For helping them get to this point, they would like to thank “our audience, who have given us a huge amount of support since our very first performance, all the venues we performed in, our manager, local radio stations, and newspapers like The Echo.”

The Ennio Morricone Experience’ will be performed on September 23 at 8pm in the main space in The Civic for €27 per ticket.

It will be two hours long, with an interval.
