The Wolf You Feed: A struggle to leave the old, harmful life behind

“We’re really looking to focus on physical storytelling this time, and many of our actors are part of the ensemble of wolves.,” according to group leader Lloyd Collins of Giant Wolf Youth Theatre’s upcoming show ‘The Wolf You Feed, which is a tale of lost identity and found family.

Max, who recently separated, has just moved into the rundown Shady Pines motel at the edge of a national park.

Outside, a pack of wolves is wondering if she wants to hang out. Inside, everything she used to know is becoming something else.

A toothbrush becomes a handful of chives, a bottle of shampoo is an owl that refuses to leave the shower, and a stack of papers that demand a signature stubbornly remains just that.

It’s a surreal story about a person who struggles to leave their old, harmful life behind and find something new—and themselves—along the way.

“We have done a lot of work on how to move as a pack and how to move like a wolf,” continues Lloyd.

The show will perform in the Civic on August 16 and 17, and then in September, they are going to Germany to take part in a big international youth theatre festival called InterTWINed.

There will be groups from all over Europe there, and Giant Wolf will get to perform the show there too.

The group is very excited to go take part in that, as “it’s always a great time and a really great learning experience for our students.”

They will get to see plays put on by youth theatres from Poland, Germany, Estonia, Italy, and more. Once they come back, they are going to begin work on our next shows.

The younger group is keen to write a murder mystery in the wild west, so keep an eye out for that in the new year! ‘The Wolf You Feed’, an adaptation of the story originally written by D’arcy Parker Bruce, will perform in the Civic on August 16 and 17.
