Two arrested as heroin worth estimated €8m seized
HEROIN worth an estimated €8 million was seized this morning following the interception of a light aircraft and a vehicle in South Dublin County and Kildare.
It is understood that gardai and Revenue officers seized the drugs in a plane at Weston Airport.
In a statement issued this evening, gardai said that the seizure was part of ongoing investigations by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Revenue Customs Service.
These ongoing investigations target transnational organised crime.
The statement added: “Diamorphine (heroin) with an estimated street value in excess of €8 million was recovered this morning Friday, December 1, 2023, following the interception of a light aircraft and a vehicle in South County Dublin and County Kildare.
“Two males, aged in their 40s and 60s, have been arrested on suspicion of organised crime activity and are currently detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2006, at a Garda station in County Kildare.”
Investigations are ongoing, gardai said.
