‘Under the Sea’ themed art exhibition in St Dominic’s

A VIBRANT marine-themed art exhibition was unveiled in St Dominic’s National School in Tallaght last week.

The exhibition was held to show the work the children had done after learning about the importance of the marine environment over the last month.

It also forms part of the school’s aim to get a Global Citizenship: Marine Environments flag, which falls under the umbrella of the Green Flag programme.

Commenting on the exhibition, which had the theme of ‘Under the Sea’, St Dominic’s NS teacher Emma O’Reilly said it was a positive experience for staff, students and parents.

“It was a lovely day where classes showcased their artistic and creative talents,” she told The Echo.

“It was fantastic to see so many parents visit the hall and get involved.

“Feedback from the parents was great, saying how our work on the flag opened up and started conversations at home.”

St Dominic’s NS pupils had spent three weeks leading up to the exhibition honing in on the different facets of the marine environment.

The students learned about litter and pollution in our oceans and the harm that this causes to sea creatures and fish, as well as issues with massive dumping piles in our oceans.

“Our slogan for our flag is ‘Put it in the bin so the fish can swim’,” added Ms O’Reilly.

“Each class group focused on a different art strand from the curriculum to create their artwork.

“The strands were: paint and colour, drawing, clay, print, fabric and fibre, and construction.”

The exhibition was well received by all who attended, and it brings St Dominic’s NS a step closer to securing a Global Citizenship: Marine Environments flag. See photos on page 40
