Vandals start fires on two playing pitches with car being set alight

SOUTH Dublin County Council is currently investigating two cases of vandalism on playing pitches in Aylesbury and Jobstown over the weekend.
On Saturday night, September 9, a number of fires were set near the pitches in Aylesbury while on Sunday afternoon, a car was set alight in the middle of Jobstown Park.
In recent months, a number of communities have expressed their frustration over the destruction of public amenities such as playing fields, which is having a negative impact on sports clubs and residents using the public spaces over the weekend.
When contacted by The Echo this week, Teresa Walsh, the Council’s Director of Environment, Water and Climate Change, said: “This matter is under investigation by the Council.
“The two sites are being cleared by Public Realm crews, however reinstatement of the grass will take time.
“It is very disappointing that this kind of anti-social behaviour is occurring and preventing residents and clubs from enjoying these amenities.”
Proactive in its efforts to promote health and wellbeing across the county, the council confirmed that it is working with communities and the gardai to prevent this behaviour.
