A WOMAN who was physically attacked and robbed outside her front door this week, has urged people to be vigilant.

The disturbing assault occurred at Old Church Crescent on Thursday, September 7, at approximately 10.30pm.

A young man (aged 17-20) was waiting for the woman behind a car in the driveway, as she made her way to the front door.

Wearing a hoody, the thief lunged at her, knocking her to the ground, and grabbed her handbag, which contained personal items of sentimental value.

Speaking to The Echo, the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I think he was on his own – he was hiding behind my own car (which was parked) and ran off towards the cul-de-sac. It wasn’t that late at night, anyone could be coming home at that time, but it was a shock when it happened.

“I was pushed to the floor, injuring my hand, with cuts and bruises on my knees. I had to go to the GP the next day. This is not usually the type of thing that happens in this area.”

The woman made an appeal for the return of her personal items, which include a light-blue, medium-size handbag, long red Kate Spade wallet full of cards (driver license, bank cards, etc) and an android phone with a black leather cover.

“The support from the community has been great, a lot of people have sent supportive messages,” she said.

A Garda spokesperson said they are investigating the incident.

“The suspect was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, with a hood up – he approached the woman from behind in a snatch and run,” said the spokesperson.
