Widows support group CARE celebrates one-year anniversary

A WIDOWS support group which was established by women in Ballyfermot, celebrated their one-year anniversary.
Widows CARE was founded by Mary Oyediran and Sandra Beirne, to provide “fun and compassionate” support, citing a lack of clinical supports that are available to grieving widows.
The anniversary celebration took place in Ballyfermot Library and was hosted by Sandra Beirne (Widow CARE coordinator).
The group started meeting in Ballyfermot Library once a month, but have grown over the year in terms of members attending and venues where they host meetings.
Meetings are available for widows each month in Ballyfermot Library, Palmerstown Community Centre and St Matthew’s Family Resource Centre in Drumfinn Park.
Sandra said: “Widows CARE is trying to spread awareness of the group in St Matthew’s resource centre in Drumfinn Park, so we are joining the knit group for a cuppa and chat plus knitting and crochet.
“I would like to thank Martin Nea our grief counsellor, and Phylis Browne for their commitment over the year.”
Sandra is running an hour-long programme about Widows CARE every month in the Ballyfermot Civic centre with interviewer Mary O’Sullivan.
“This gives a great deal of hope and comfort to widows all over Ballyfermot and surrounding areas,” she said.
Care meet on the first Wednesday of the month at Palmerstown Youth Centre (11am-12.30pm), the second Wednesday of the month at St. Matthews family resource centre (12pm -1pm), and the last Friday of every month at Ballyfermot Library (11am-1pm).
The group also host a one-hour radio show that goes out from civic centre over the internet once a month.
