A MAN who was allegedly caught with an imitation firearm last Thursday in Tallaght was refused bail by Tallaght Court.
Ian Quinn allegedly told gardaí: “You have got me. I have a gun in my waistband”.
Quinn, aged 35, with an address at St Aongus Road, Tallaght, is charged with possession of a realistic imitation firearm at Birchwood Drive in Tallaght on October 1, 2015.
Garda Simon Whelan told Judge Bridget Reilly that he was objecting to bail under Section 2 of the Bail Act. He said that Quinn was charged with possession of a realistic imitation firearm.
Garda Whelan said he had been on patrol on the previous day. He said the day was “bright, warm and sunny” and he observed a man on a bicycle who was wearing a heavy jacket with the hood up. He said he thought this was strange due to the weather.
Garda Whelan said he called for the cyclist to stop. After a short pursuit, they caught up with Quinn who put his arms up in the air and said “You got me, I have a gun in my waistband”.
Garda Whelan said he found Quinn in possession of the imitation gun, a pair of gloves and a balaclava.
Quinn’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, asked Garda Whelan if he would consent to any conditions to give his client bail. Garda Whelan said: “No”.
Quinn then gave evidence. He said he had been “in good order”. He added: “I know for a fact that I am being stitched up over this”. Mr Hennessy asked the judge to grant bail.
Judge Reilly refused bail and remanded Quinn in custody for a week to Cloverhill District Court.
