Young people receive Gaisce Awards

Nine young people from Ballyfermot Youth Service  received their Gaisce Awards from Lord Mayor Caroline Conroy in the Mansion house on Monday night.

Two of the young people received Silver Awards, Amber Eastwood and Abbie Gibbons for their leadership skills in the Skatepark over the last two years  and the remaining seven  Dylan Talbot, Alan Eastwood, Shane Carolan, Ellie Fitzsimons, Amy Berry, Bradley Dodrill and Abigail Cunningham received Bronze medals for their personal achievements in outdoor education.

All the young people took part in a 74 kilometre walk from Ballyfermot to Oakwood County Wicklow during the recent midterm break.

In addition they undertook speedboat training, High Board diving, cooking skills and first aid training.

The group were supported by Sharon Kelly, Dublin City Council Sports Officer  who provided some of the training under Dublin City Sports and Well Being Programme. On hand with all the practical elements were Ger O’ Reilly and Allegra Lalor from Ballyfermot Youth Service Outdoor Education Centre.
