100 kg sled push raises €16k for the Irish Cancer Society
By Mary Dennehy
FOUR lads on a mission raised more than €16,000 for the Irish Cancer Society through a 24-hour, 100kg sled push in Tallaght recently, reports Mary Dennehy.
Cancer is something close to the hearts of personal trainer Darren Murray and his team mates Andrew Dunne, Karl Doherty and James Mooney, who together took on the challenge to raise awareness of and funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
In February 2017, the lads raised €11k for the charity through a 12-hour sled push.
However, this year they pushed themselves even harder in a bid to raise more than €12k for cancer support - but they smashed their goal and raised more than €16k.
Speaking with The Echo, Darren Murray, who runs Darren Murray Personal Training in Tallaght Village, said: “It was an amazing day, we had great support from everybody and we’re delighted to have been able to raise so much for such a good cause.
“It was a crazy 24-hours and pretty tough, plus staying awake during the night was quite a task.
“However, we’re so happy with the amount of money raised both online and offline and can’t thank people enough – a massive thanks to everyone.”
