€227k awarded to community groups through council grants

Over €227,000 was awarded to community and voluntary groups through South Dublin County Council’s Community grants programme in 2020.
South Dublin County Council had 149 applications for the programme, from groups that respond to various needs within the local communities.

The community and voluntary groups were able to apply for financial assistance from the Council through the programme.
Out of a total of 149 applications, 107 grants were approved for 76 local groups by the council, totalling €227,321.94.
Among those that were approved are local groups such as Clondalkin Women’s Network, Killinarden Community Council, Knocklyon Men’s Shed, the WEB project, the Adamstown Youth and Community Centre and Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.
The groups could apply for the grants under different categories, including community development grants, sports development grants, community centre re-opening funding, community events funding and covid-19 resilience funding.
The applications were then assessed under certain criteria laid out by the council: impact on local community and local community involvement, proven track record of project delivery and non-duplication of activities in the local area, sustainable & value for money projects with clear/accurate costings and existing funds available to the group/alternative funding sources.
Colm Ward, Director of Housing, Social and Community Development, said: “This funding provides a real boost to community groups and projects across South Dublin County.
“The wide range of activities and groups being supported shows the strength and resilience of community spirit in our County.”
