250th Parkrun at Corkagh celebrated

CORKAGH Park celebrated it’s 250th parkrun over the weekend with a bumper crowd of close to 350 people taking part in the special event.

The Corkagh parkrun began in 2017 and this was its second ever highest attendance, according to, Shane O’Keeffe, who is an event director, along with Anna Byrne.

“We had a great celebration for our 250th event with a bumper crowd of 345 park runners.

“Along with our regular crowd, we had lots of visitors from other local parkruns, groups from local running clubs and lots of first timers who picked a great morning to start their parkrun journey,” said Shane.

The Corkagh parkrun started in September 2017 and Saturday was their highest attendance since covid, as more and more people are out engaging in their favourite pursuits once again.

“Over our 250 events, 6,201 different people have taken part and they’ve completed a total of 42,687 runs which is a total of 213,435km,” said Shane.

Over the 250 events, 662 people have volunteered at Corkagh parkrun a total of 5,140 times.

Shane continued: “On Saturday, there were 39 people who were taking part at Corkagh for the first time and 66 people achieved new personal bests.”

The Corkagh course is 5k, accurately measured by organisers with a professional measuring wheel.

The course is run entirely on tarmac paths and dependent on availability, marshals are placed at key sections of the course, or signs are in place to assist runners.

Corkagh parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9.30am and it is free to register. Further details on the Corkagh Parkrun HERE
