380 apartment plans for ABB site on Belgard Road
A FASTRACK planning application for 380 apartments in Tallaght has been lodged with An Bord Pleanala.
The subject site is the former Irish HQ of global technology firm ABB on Belgard Road.
Plans contain proposals for the demolition of all existing structures on the site, and construction of 380 apartments (150 build-to-rent, 230 build to sell), childcare facility and associated site works.
The Strategic Housing Development application was lodged by Landmarque Belgard Development Company Limited.
The Belgard Road site is located near Tallaght Village and lies on a site set to benefit from the Tallaght District Heating Scheme (TDHS), the first large-scale district heating network of its kind in Ireland.
District heating is a network of highly-insulated pipes that delivers low-carbon heat from a central energy source to provide space heating and hot water to the buildings connected to the network.
Project partners Codema and South Dublin County Council say the scheme will deliver a high level of innovation, as waste heat from the nearby Amazon data centre will supply the heat to the network.
During normal operation, heat demand will be 100 per cent covered from the data centre waste heat.
ABB, a leading global technology company with 105,000 employees in over 100 countries, have a number of sites in Ireland, including Cork, Louth, Antrim and Clonsaugh.
The Echo understands the company are moving their HQ to another site in South Dublin.
The fastrack case is due to be decided by December 14, 2021.
