€5,500 raised from charity football match for CRY

OVER €5,500 was raised for the Irish Heart Foundation and CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young, as a result of a charity football match and raffle held in memory of a popular father-of-two who died suddenly in December 2016.
Aylesbury man Brian Byrne (40), passed away suddenly after suffering a heart attack, with the devoted family man leaving behind his partner Linda Carey and their then-five-week-old twins Anna and Ryley.

Brian’s family held the Brian Byrne Charity Soccer Tournament in Frank Cox Park in Rathcoole recently, followed by a night of music and food in St Mary’s GAA Club in Saggart, with 170 people attending the successful event.
Brian’s brother-in-law Richie Redmond told The Echo: “It couldn’t have gone any better. There was a great atmosphere and everyone was in good humour.
“It was a joyous occasion, and it was a nice thing to remember Brian by.”
A raffle was also held on the night, and Richie praised the generosity of local businesses for donating prizes for the competition.
Talking about the turnout, Richie said: “The crowd that turned up showed how popular Brian was, it proved how popular he was and it meant a lot to his family.
“It was nice to know that he had so many friends.”
Richie added that there are hopes to make the Brian Byrne Charity Soccer Tournament an annual event.
