€50,000 set aside for anti-litter and anti- graffiti initiatives

OVER €50,000 has been set aside by South Dublin County Council for anti-litter and anti-graffiti initiatives.
The central Government has provided 70 per cent (€36,000) of the fund and South Dublin County Council provided the rest (€15,428) for a total of €51,428.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Trevor Gilligan welcomed the fund and encourages people to make submissions by the deadline on June 29.
Cllr Gilligan said: “All projects will be assessed and successful applicants will be awarded the full amount applied for – in that they don’t have to match the funding.
“Grant aid for expenditure on capital items will not be provided, including for signage, bins, machinery hire, lawnmowers, shovels, litter pickers, bags, gloves.”
However, South Dublin County Council will collect waste following a clean up.
Initiatives must include an educational focus, and involve when possible schools and young people.
Generally successful initiatives focus on activities like road adoption, clean ups, workshops, and school activities, as well as anti-litter and anti-graffiti awareness competitions, such as poster designing.
The application for funding is due by 5pm on Thursday, June 29, and can be downloaded at https://goo.gl/alKFQo.
Cllr Gilligan offered his support to people who require help with their application – email trevorgilligan@gmail.com.
Meanwhile, the application for the Community Facilities Scheme grant is due 5pm on Friday, June 30. The grant allows for capital purchases up to €1,000 by community groups.
