Accused of dealing over €1 million worth of cannabis

A TALLAGHT man accused of dealing over €1 million worth of cannabis has been sent forward for trial to the Circuit Court.

Kevin Fitzgerald (40) was arrested and charged after detectives from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, assisted by the Special Crime Task Force, carried out a search at an industrial unit in west Dublin last December.

Fitzgerald was before Judge David McHugh in Blanchardstown District Court for service of his book of evidence.

Fitzgerald, who has an address at Sundale Close, Tallaght, is charged with simple possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis for sale and supply at Kavanaghs Yard, Peamount Road, Newcastle, Co. Dublin, on December 5, 2017.

He is also charged with possession of cannabis for sale or supply with a value of more than €13,000 at Kavanagh’s Yard, Peamount Road, Newcastle, on the above date.

A Solicitor for the DPP told Judge McHugh that the book was ready to be served. She said the DPP had consented for Fitzgerald to be sent forward to the present sitting of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge McHugh gave Fitzgerald the formal alibi caution and assigned defence solicitor Wayne Kenny as well as one junior counsel on free legal aid.

He sent Fitzgerald forward on bail to the present sitting of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
