Adamstown scoop ‘Emerging Club of the Year’ Award

NINE YEARS after its establishment, Adamstown Cricket Club has been honoured at the Turkish Airlines Cricket Ireland Awards after winning the ‘Emerging Club of the Year’ accolade for 2018.
Club Development Officer, Olag Sivanantham was overjoyed with the award calling it a “remarkable year” for the club after a “phenomenal season” on and off the pitch.

“We started in 2009 and have grown in numbers every year, but we are still a small club compared to the others that were at the award ceremony, some who are 90 years old and 150 years old, so it’s a great honour to have come so far in nine years.
“It is dedicated to every volunteer who has given up their valuable time and every member who has pulled on the shirt with that Adamstown mantra in their head,” Sivanantham told The Echo.
The Lucan club has seen a rapid growth since it was first established and now boasts one of the largest number of members in the country with 13 teams.
Competing in the Leinster League competitions, the seniors have fared well with their second and fourth teams gaining promotion to Division Six and 11 respectfully while their firsts narrowly missed out on promotion from Division five.
Sivanantham highlighted the youth in the club as the biggest attribute, saying “the number of teams has grown significantly, and perhaps the biggest highlight this year on the pitch is starting the minor girls’ team.”
Off the pitch, Adamstown has invested a great deal of time into developing the sport as they also hold a dedicated cricket night in Adamstown Community Centre with hopes of holding cricket nights in Corkagh Park moving forward.
“We hope to eventually build a pavilion at our pitch in Corkagh Park so we can have running water and bathrooms instead of running the club out of the two containers.
“We like to call Corkagh the ‘centre of excellence’ and now it feels like we are moving towards that model.
“The ultimate aim and dream are to have adults from Adamstown playing at international level, and looking beyond our club, having cricket pitches in every public park and aim to grow the underage support to maintain the sport,” he added.
