On the night of Friday March 2, the Lidl Supermarket on Fortunestown Lane was destroyed and a Centra shop in Jobstown was damaged. A number of cars were also burnt out in the area.

In her motion, councillor Dunne called on the council to set up a high-level group that includes Ministers, TDs, gardai, senior council staff and councillors to address the inequality in the area. The motion was passed without debate.

Cllr Murphy’s motion called for “a local conference to ascertain any need for additional services and facilities in the west Tallaght area, and to give voice to the opinions of residents”.

He proposed  that the conference should include representation from elected councillors and TD’s, community service providers, volunteers, resident’s associations, local schools representatives and interested residents.

During a discussion on Storm Emma, the Councillors paid tribute to local residents and Council staff who gave assistance during the storm.

Councillor Cathal King made the point that on the day after the incident in Centra, local residents helped bring milk from the milk truck to the shop.  Cllr King paid tribute to Council staff who assisted a family who had a funeral and who needed access from their home during the snow.

Cllr Murphy also praised staff in Tallaght hospital who slept overnight on mattresses so that they could be at work.
