Alcohol waste and syringes found during clean-up day
By Aideen O'Flaherty
OVER 30 bags of waste was collected by volunteers over two hours at a Dodder Valley Park clean-up on Good Friday, with alcohol waste making up a significant amount of the rubbish that was collected, as well as a number of syringes.
Volunteers from the Dodder Valley Litter Mugs, Dodder Action, Tallaght Rugby Club and An Taisce climate ambassadors took part in the clean-up, as did former Tallaght Person of the Year, Sinead Tighe and her daughter Shauna Tighe, who is the Leinster Young Carer of the Year.

Christine Barretto from the Dodder Valley Litter Mugs said: “With the added muscle from our rugby champions, big items such as three mattresses, chairs, tyres and local election signs were removed from the park.
“Alcohol waste was a huge feature as well as a number of syringes, and local environmental champion Caragh Coote was shocked by the extent of the waste, [as she was] finding waste from the early 90s.”
John Kiberd, also from Dodder Valley Litter Mugs, added: “It was great to see the Tallaght Rugby champions turning up and giving back, they were a great asset on the day.”
The event is one of several events that the Dodder Valley Litter Mugs will be holding to clean-up the park, with the next clean-up taking place on Saturday, May 11, from 10am to midday, and all are welcome to attend.
People who are interested in taking part in the clean-up are invited to bring friends and family with them to the carpark of the Old Mill at 10am on the day, before the group sets off for the clean-up of Dodder Valley Park.
