All sport allowed to return from June 29
By Stephen Leonard
THERE was more good news for Irish sport with government confirmation this evening that all sporting activities can resume from June 29 albeit with limited numbers of spectators.
In what is a re-phasing of the roadmap to recovery, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced “All sporting activities, including close contact sports, can recommence.
"This includes team leagues for adults and children.
“For now sport will take place with very limited numbers of spectators.
“Mass gathering of people will be limited to 50 people indoors and 200 people outdoors until the 20th of July.
“All going well, this will rise to 100 people indoors and 500 people outdoors thereafter” he added.
It does, however, remain to be seen how the various sports governing bodies in
Ireland will implement the much-anticipated return to action in their respective
fields that the acceleration in the lifting of restrictions now affords them.
