
All the hard work pays off for Tidy Towns committees

VOLUNTEEERS from across the county were recognised for all their hard work during the announcement of the annual Tidy Towns Groups competition.
Lucan were the highest scoring group in the county – receiving 305 points from judges and securing a coveted Bronze medal in the process.
A group statement said it was “excellent to be part of the winners mentioned on stage.”
“Many thanks to all our hard workers and supporters.”
Clondalkin Tidy Towns secured 281 points – an increase of 10 points on last year, as the group go from strength to strength.
Other groups in the county who were recognised, were Palmerstown (256 points), Terenure (292), Balrothery (246), Woodstown Village (253), Chapelizod (258), Templeogue (235) and Brittas (250).
South Dublin County Council congratulated all the groups on “achieving great results.”
Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Paul Gogarty said: “I am delighted that Tidy Town scores in South Dublin County have continued to increase. The various committees should be congratulated on the huge effort they have put in this year as well as in previous years to keep so many parts of our county in such beautiful condition.
“The effort of all these volunteers in their communities represents a huge show of civic pride that has made tangible improvements to our local environment. I would like to thank all of our Tidy Town committees and the hundreds of volunteers for their fantastic contribution.
“I would strongly encourage others with a small amount of time on their hands to get involved in this rewarding and fulfilling work.
“A special mention is due to Lucan Tidy Towns, from my own electoral area, who this year won a Bronze Medal.
“I know first-hand the work this group does and I am delighted their efforts have paid off.”
