Allotments created and allocated to people on wait list

AN ADDITIONAL two allotments have been created in Tymon Park following frustration from people on long waiting lists.

As reported recently in The Echo, some people have been waiting up to ten years for an allotment across the four allotment locations in South County Dublin – Corkagh Park, Friarstown, Mill Lane and Tymon Park.

Allotments have been created in Tymon Park

These allotments are rented for the purpose of recreational gardening, cultivation of herbs, flowers, fruit and vegetables and no other purpose such as residential or commercial purposes.

In March 2021, there were 171 people on waiting lists for allotments in these four locations across the county.

Following a question raised by Councillor Teresa Costello at an area committee meeting last week asking the council to consider allocating more space to add more allotments in Tymon Park, South Dublin County Council said that there are currently 15 allotments in Tymon Park, after they recently split two to create additional allotments.

These additional two allotments have been already offered to the next two people on the waiting list for Tymon Park.

As part of their response, the council also added: “A full review of the Council’s Allotments Policy was initiated at the Environment, Water and Climate Change SPC on 16th February 2021.

“As part of this review, capacity and supply & demand will be examined. A full report with recommendations will be brought back to the SPC in due course.”
