Almost 3,000 less signing on across Dublin South West compared to last year

THERE has been a drop of 3,000 people on the live register across Dublin South west since July 2015, with over 2,200 people signing off across Clondalkin, Lucan and Tallaght since the same period last year.

As a result of this drop, the number of people signing onto the live register was 21,285 across Dublin South west last month, compared to 24,279 people last year.

Throughout the Tallaght, Clondalkin, Ballyfermot and Nutgrove social welfare offices, there has also been a significant drop in the number of people under 25 who have signed on within the past year, with 2,901 people signing on last month in comparison to 3,778 in July 2015.

Despite the annual drop, there has been a slight increase across all areas in the number of people signing on in July compared to June, with the highest increase (101) in Nutgrove from 3,658 in June to 3,759 in July.

Tallaght and Nutgrove had an increase in the number of people under 25 signing on in the period from June to July with 12 in Tallaght and six in Nutgrove, while Ballyfermot saw the only increase in the number of males (2) signing on during the same period.

The number of males signing on across Dublin South west has fallen by over 2,000 people since last year, with a drop of 197 occurring between June and July this year.

A drop in the number of females signing on has also been shown from 9,793 to 8,874, however a 362 increase in the number of women signing on took place between June and July with all areas showing an increase.

Overall, there was a -1.7 per cent monthly decrease across the live register, with an annual decrease for July 2016 of -12.2 per cent.

Despite a rise in the number of females signing on in Dublin South west between June and July, there was a -2 per cent decrease nationally.
