Amazon Web Service host Girls’ Tech Day

GIRLS and young women between the ages of eight and 24 are invited to attend a free virtual tech day on Saturday, November 13.

The AWS (Amazon Web Services) Girls’ Tech Day is held annually to ‘inspire and motivate’ girls and young women to develop and pursue their interests in technology.

The programme also supports teachers and staff who can participate with their classes, girls’ tech groups and clubs.

This year’s programme includes speaker sessions from students and women in tech and interactive coding workshops involving hands-on coding activities in programming languages, Scratch and Python.

Learning and discovery sessions will also be held virtually, with participants discovering how algorithms, machine learning and cloud computing power Amazon’s fulfilment process.

Fun activities will also feature, such as snapping a photo, participating in trivia and more.

According to AWS, the workshop activities are designed so that each participant can go at their own pace and watch the on-demand as many times as they like between November 13 and December 13.

To join Tech Day, participants will need to create an account in Scratch and Trinket.io to complete activities.

All activities require an electronic device like a computer or mobile phone with internet connection.

Registration is now open. Parents, guardians and teachers must register participants under 18 years of age.
