Applegreen set to improve safety on Rathcoole site

APPLEGREEN looks to expand its location off the N7 at Rathcoole to address safety concerns surrounding the lack of HGV parking spaces currently located on the site.

The application is for the demolition of 10 structures, including the filling station, that are currently on the site and the construction of a new shop building that includes four food offerings, a retail area and six pump islands with a canopy.

Also included within the proposed development is a car-wash facility and dedicated HGV car-parking and new entrance arrangements to property adjoining the site.

In its pre-planning proposal, Petrogas PLC Ltd t/a Applegreen said: “The primary aim of the proposed development is to address the current unsafe practice of multiple HGVs wishing to access the facilities parking on the hard shoulder of the N7 as there is no dedicated HGV parking available on the site.

“The proposal also seeks to reorganise the existing layout so as to provide a more ordered and efficient configuration that reduces congestion within the site and further increases customer safety.”

A decision on the proposal is expected from South Dublin County Council by August 18, with submissions on the application accepted until July 28.
