Ballyboden sides march on in c’ship

A 1-4 SALVO from Louise Kelly helped see Ballyboden St Enda’s into the Junior ‘B’ Championship Final as they navigated past a tricky Ballyboughal side at Pairc Ui Mhurchu last week.
Despite losing the coin toss leaving Boden playing into the wind in the first half, they adapted a possession game to keep the ball mostly out of reach of their Fingal opposition and run out 3-11 to 0-9 winners.
Ballyboden St Enda’s Senior B Ladies footballers made it in to the Junior ‘B’ Championship Final.
The Firhouse Road ladies now set up a tie with St Peregrines in the decider, a team they were paired with and eased past in the group stage of the championship back in June.
Boden kicked off the scoring last Wednes-day in the semi-final when wing-forward Aine Duffy split the posts before Kelly dispatched a penalty to the net in a rapid-fire start for her side.
Deployed at centre-forward, Kelly proved a real thorn in the side of the opposition and notched up three back-to-back-to-back scores after her penalty effort.
Showing real steel in defence, Joanne O’Sullivan, Claire King and Aisling McElvann-ey kept the Bally- boughal tally to just five points for the half.
Midfielder Grace Walsh rounded out a dominant half with a fine goal that saw her side into a 2-6 to 0-5 lead by the interval.
The second-half, however, was much more hotly contested as Boden hit five points to Ballyboughal’s four.
But the killer blow came late when St Enda’s substitute Shona Conway slalom-ed through the opposition defence before fixing the ball into the corner of the net.
Ballyboden will now face St Peregrines on September 22 in Fingallians.
Elsewhere in the club, Joe Fortune’s reigning Dublin Senior Hurling ‘A’ Champions booked their place in the quarter-finals with a resounding 42-point win over Setanta.
Conor Dooley was untouchable as he struck 2-10 in his side’s 6-29 to 0-15 win at Parnell Park on Thursday evening.
Boden’s senior hurlers will now take on St Vincent’s in the last-eight on Saturday, September 21 in Parnell Park.
