BALLYCULLEN resident and student of Ashfield College in Dundrum, Muhammad Mahmoud, was one of just 13 students in the country to achieve top marks with 8 H1s in this year’s Leaving Certificate Examination.

Ashfield College has been serving students in South Dublin for 40 years and provides external students with grinds, revision courses, extra subjects, HPAT preparation courses and Irish for Primary Schools also.

Muhammad achieved H1s in the English, Mathematics, Geography, French, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

His goal is to study medicine in UCD and was inspired by his mother, Dr Ayda Elkhalifa who works in Tallaght Hospital.

Combined with the required HPAT exam for medicine – which he also sat through Ashfield College – Muhammad received a total of 732 points.

When asked about the secret to his success, Muhammad emphasised the importance of structure, creating a study timetable and revising a different chapter every night.

His advice was that “when you’re organised, it’s much easier, you’re not wasting any time”.

Ashfield College Principal, John Winters commented on Muhammad’s success stating “We are delighted for Muhammad and it is a completely deserved result”. He went on to acknowledge the hard work and dedication Muhammad put in and added: “We have many exceptional Leaving Certificate results here today, but Muhammad’s is a stand-out.”

Muhammad will be celebrating by just relaxing at home with his proud parents and friends until the CAO offers arrive on Monday.
