‘Ballyer mayor’ honoured with plaque outside centre
By Maurice Garvey
A PLAQUE was erected recently in Ballyfermot to remember one of the most recognisable faces in the area.
Gentle gent John Nolan, the former ‘mayor of Ballyfermot’, passed away on Friday, March 3.
The flatcap-wearing “man with a brush and cigarette” was a familiar figure in the community.
Residents in the community helped out with funeral arrangements, Jackie’s Florist making a special wreath and cards for people to say their farewell to John.
This week, residents and St John of God’s helped to fund a €500 plaque in honour of John outside the Ballyfermot Resource Centre.
Some of John’s family arrived over from England for the unveiling of the plaque on Wednesday afternoon.
