Bancroft to get lighting upgrade

South Dublin County Council has decided to upgrade the public lighting in Bancroft, after a local councillor raised serious health and safety issues for the older residents living in the area.

Last week, Sinn Féin councillor Cora McCann spoke to The Echo about poor visibility in the estates, particularly Bancroft Grove, which she said has led to a number of falls and attacks on older residents.

In a response to Cllr McCann, council management said that Bancroft Grove would be added to the upgrade programme for 2018 if “deemed appropriate for upgrade”.

However, this week the council confirmed that it has since been decided to include Bancroft as a “standalone upgrade scheme” in its next LED upgrade rollout.

In communication to councillors, management said: “Normally we would not include areas that are on ESB Network poles, but in this instance we have decided to include it in our next Upgrade Programme, details of which will be sent to the elected members shortly.”

Cllr McCann told The Echo: “I welcome the council’s decision and will try and push for Bancroft Grove to be completed before the winter.”
