Almost 200 people and over 100 dogs joined the Irish Blue Cross charity for the fun-filled and aptly named, Bark in the Park in Tymon Park on Sunday, reports William O’Connor.

The popular annual fundraising event, organised by the animal welfare charity, was jam-packed with doggy fun, including dog competitions, a mini agility course, tricks training classes and a long walk around the beautiful Tymon Park to burn off lots of energy.

The event, sponsored by Maxi Zoo and hosted with Positive Dog Training, was one in a series of five sponsored dog walks, planned by the charity this Summer to raise money to support their work.

All money raised goes towards helping the thousands of sick and injured pets the charity cares for.

Cllr Conor McMahon, came along to lend his support, acting as guest judge to find the dogs with the Happiest Smile, Waggiest Tail, Shiniest Coat, Best Bark and Best Overall Dog.

“It has been a thoroughly enjoyable, fun-filled day for all the family here in Tymon Park and great to see so many families and breeds of dog turn out,” said Cllr McMahon.

“The Irish Blue Cross carry out fantastic work in our community from their mobile units and clinic and we should do anything we can to support such a worthy charity.”

Commenting on acting as competition judge, Cllr McMahon commented, “It was a very tough task to choose the Best Dog with so many worthy entrants, but in the end, we decided on Cooper, a gorgeous retriever puppy who was so well behaved at just 11 weeks old.”

The Irish Blue Cross, well known for providing charitable veterinary services from its small animal clinic in Inchicore and from mobile clinics every weekday evening, hope to raise in the region of €25,000 from the five Bark events this summer.

The remaining Bark in the Park event for 2018 will take place in Ardgillan Castle in Balbriggan on Sunday, September 2.
