Bawnogue stores to amalgamate into a small supermarket
By Laura Lyne
PLANS to enhance and modernise the More 4 Less convenience store located in the Bawnogue Shopping Centre have been submitted to South Dublin County Council.
They were submitted on January 19 by owner Mark Burns, who plans to amalgamate three of the retail units into one to provide a small supermarket, with the current post office located within the store instead of in a separate retail unit.
It will also see the re-surfacing and re-lining of the existing car park, new signage for the front facade of the shop and the demolition and re-erection of a store to the rear of the supermarket.
The applicant said: “The enlarged convenience store proposed will allow for separate access to and exit from the store for customers.
“It will incorporate the relocated Post Office and continue to house the centre’s ATM.
“It will provide a larger, better stocked, more accessible convenience store for the existing customers in the area.
“The existing Bawnogue Shopping Centre is a busy neighbourhood centre that provides a much needed service for the surrounding residential communities. It is however in many ways outdated and in need of modernisation.
“The application if successful will provide a much needed boost for the neighbourhood centre greatly improving the look of the centre and improving the shopping experience of customers.”
Plans will see the More 4 Less convenience store extended to the size of two retails units, with the floor space of the store increasing from 200.82 sqm to 363.22 sqm.
The existing cafe/coffee shop will be displaced and located to one of the vacant units within the shopping centre building – as part of the re-development, the existing footprint of the building will not change.
Third party submissions on the application will be accepted until February 22, with a decision on the application due from South Dublin County Council by March 14.
