A COMMUNICATIONS board and bee-inspired sensory play equipment were recently unveiled in Tymon Park to cater to neurodiverse children.

On Monday, June 26, former Mayor and current Fianna Fáil councillor Emma Murphy officially opened the play space section with sensory play equipment.

The equipment was installed as part of the €300k Have Your Say scheme, with members of the public suggesting and then voting on projects in their local area.

Speaking on the day of the official opening, Cllr Murphy said: “We are officially opening one of the €300k Have Your Say projects here today, which is the addition of new sensory play features to the park; with a new accessible basket swing, wheelchair accessible picnic area, and bee sculptures.

“This project complements the new communications board at this location perfectly and enhances the accessibility and universal nature of play at Tymon Park.”

The day after, on Tuesday, June 27, Cllr Murphy officially launched South Dublin County Council’s new communications board in the park.

The board is one of 13 boards in playspaces in council parks around the county, which were erected following the success of a pilot project in Corkagh Park.

“Going forward, we hope to implement these into all future playspaces,” said Cllr Murphy.

“Communication boards are extremely important for inclusive play and allows any child struggling with verbal communication to play the way they wish.”
