Beech hedging on embankment is vandalised with chemicals

A BEECH hedge was vandalised in Palmerstown last month, and it appeared that a chemical was used on a select area of the hedge which is situated along the city-bound embankment of the N4.
The chemical which was used damaged the hedge and also led to the discolouration of the grass around it.
The hedging had been planted by South Dublin County Council.
Alan Hughes, the secretary of the Palmerstown Meitheal Tidy Towns group told The Echo: “The council planted the hedging and they paid for it, which means that it has been paid for out of our taxes.
“Whoever did this is taking something away from the entire community.
“If people have a problem with the maintenance of the public realm they should take that up with the systems in place, instead of taking it into their own hands.
“It makes the front of that embankment look quite unsightly.”
A spokesperson for South Dublin County Council stated: “The Council will investigate the matter and, if necessary, any damaged hedging can be replaced.”
