Bernard Dunne for set for High Performance post
BERNARD Dunne is set to be appointed to the post of High Performance Director of the Irish Athletic Boxing Association.
The move is part of the IABA’s Tokyo Strategic Plan and will see the Neilstown man fill a role that has been officially vacant since the departure of Gary Keegan back in 2008.
Since then the post has been held unofficially by Billy Walsh and later Zaur Antia, yet the Association has move to bring in Dunne as part of their preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games.
In contention with Dunne for the post was former Ireland Rugby Head Coach Eddie O’Sullivan and Scott Novack, former High Performance Director with the USA Modern Pentathlon and USA Taekwondo.
The former WBA World and EBU European Super Bantamweight champion has been working with the Dublin senior football team and will be bringing plenty of experience to the role.
Indeed he is expected to take the reins ahead of the European and World Championships this summer.
